Hello Mr. or Mrs. Driver waiting in a queue to get gas at BJ's gas station. Can you read the sign that tells you to pull up behind one of the 12 pumps? Either you cannot read the sign or you decided that it doesn't apply to you-you decided to create a queue line just so you could zoom over to the first empty slot that appears rather than picking a pump and just waiting for the customer in front of you to finish pumping his gas. Do you not realize that this situation backs traffic up onto the main entrance road to BJ's and makes it difficult for people who are not waiting for gas to get by the line? My conclusion is either you cannot read, in which case, how did you get a driver's license, or you decided hat those rules don't apply to you. You are the privileged one that gets an exception to the rule. Shame on you.
There are so many examples of people that think rules don't apply to them. It is really disheartening and annoying. I had a coworker that bragged about never claiming her income on her taxes. She made a substantial living. Wow, that really is something to be proud of! It will eventually catch up to you when you try to pull this off. None of us wants to pay taxes. But it is part of the laws that we all agreed to live by as citizens. I guess she feels this doesn't apply to her because she is special.
Schools always push their "no bullying" policies and "zero tolerance for violence" policies. It is great to have a policy but only if you plan on enforcing it. Every day we read about students being bullied and beaten up at school. Why are these policies not being enforced? Do the bullies feel entitled to do what they want without consequence? Apparently so.
Then there are the politicians. That field is fraught with a bunch of hypocrites. They may run a campaign telling us they plan to make lobbying illegal meanwhile they are accepting gifts and campaign donations from lobbyists. They preach morality, meanwhile they are off in Argentina on a taxpayer funded trip to visit with their mistress. They tell you one thing and do another. Is that because they feel that once they are elected to their post, they are privileged and don't have to answer to anyone about changing their stance on the issues they campaigned for?
Another example is the parents that teach their kids to win at all costs, regardless of how you get there. I have seen this in action. The adults that come out of this lesson are these: Athletes that intentionally injure other athletes in order to gain the ball, the puck, the goal, the attention of the crowd, unscrupulous business people that put our country's financial health at risk just for their own financial gain, people preaching religion only to disregard the teachings of the very religion they are preaching.
Think back to the Katrina disaster in New Orleans. People were without food, water, rule of law for a very long time. Within a few days of the hurricane striking and then receding widespread looting occurred. Now, for a family without food and water, looting may have been the only way to survive in those first few days and weeks. Many of the stores were not up and running, so people stole what food they could to survive. I have no problem with that. However, also flashing across the TV screen from CNN were images of people stealing flat screen TV's, appliances, electronics and whatever booty they could carry on their backs or makeshift trailers. I do have a big problem with that. First of all, with no power, how are you going to watch your newly stolen TV anyway? How will you run your washer with no running water available? These people felt it was their option to grab anything they could in the absence of any authority to tell them otherwise. It was a sense of privilege they felt because there was an opportunity to get away with it.
There are examples every day of people feeling that the rules don't apply to them. I find these people to be nervy and obnoxious. If all of us lived this way, there would be chaos and probably many more wars. Being civilized means following laws and rules and if you don't like them, you change them by legislation and/or protest.
Meanwhile, the next time I come across a pseudo queue at BJ's gas line, I will do what I always do in that situation, I drive around that person and get into a line behind one of the pumps. Inevitably, anyone that is behind me follows suit and that negates any gain the priveleged one would have had by forming the queue in the first place! LOL
